John X Splash (Litter B)

This will be my “B” litter beings CupCake X Jack’s litter was my “A” litter.

Today was their first day out of the nest box and away from mom. They did very well.

I took pictures and a quick video when I returned them to mom. They didn’t want to stay in the next box at first – they wanted to meet my dog and hang out with mom in the cage area. I thought that was cute.

I’m not sure if this here broken is a broken black Otter or not. I will need to get a confirmation on that. The two that look like John are black Otter although one is better marked than the other. The one with better markings is the only male and looks exactly like John. Although I hope this baby doesn’t have John’s scattered white hairs. ;o) John has a fault with his scattered white hairs on his body.

How do they look ? So darling I think !!! This is my second successful litter.

Bunny One – my first broken bunny !! I need to ask someone if I can show this one. She has a little white slit down her nose butterfly .. not sure if that’s a DQ  or not. She also has some white going about 1/4 up her ears .. The SOP says full butterfly/color on ears  – I need to get a professional opinion. If these are just a fault I’d like to show her.

This is the mark  on her butterfly.  ???

Bunny Two – this one doesn’t have the distinct tan triangle on the back of her neck – but it’s there. I hope it gets more pronounced as she grows up. She is also the smallest bunny of the 3.

Bunny Three – This one here has funky looking eye markings. But looks the most like John and has a distinct tan triangle on the back of his neck.

Just wanted to share !!

John and Jill’s kits 10 days old. (pictures)

Today Jill and John’s kits are 11 days old and doing very well. I took some pictures of them individually yesterday.

At this point I think (not sure this is all new to me) there are 3 boys and one girl. The smallest and my favorite being the girl. I will probably not know for sure till they are 6 or so weeks old but to inspect and guess is for when picking out names for my Rabbitry Records.

I would like to pick at least one for the Show coming up in February 2013,  see where my first litter of bunnies takes me in the Judges eyes.

Beings these two parents John and Jill are not pedigreed – this litter of bunnies will be the first generation listen on my Rabbitry Records and the start of my 4 generation pedigree for this bloodline. This is so exciting !!

Here are some pictures of the Maniac litter – how do they look ? They are 10 days old in these pictures I took yesterday.

Jill and John’s kits are 8 days old !!

John and Jill’s baby bunnies are growing up nicely.  Absolutely Jill is a good mother. She had 4 kits and 4 are still alive. I read on a website usually first time mom rabbits don’t take care of their young or at least 1/2 the kits don’t survive. Jill had 4 kits and 4 kits are alive still. YAY !!

I named them the Maniac litter because they act like maniacs. Although for my rabbit records I’m going to use the letter “z” to name them. I didn’t sex them yet I figure wait till day 14 or 16 to do that as one website mentions.

Starlights 4 kits did die. 3 died the night of day 2 and the 3rd kit died the morning of day 3.  Darn it.

I’m thankful Jill’s 4 kits are well and active, I look forward to seeing them grow up and picking one to show. I do have an idea of which one but I’m sure you can tell until they are at least 6 weeks old.

Here’s a picture of the maniacs on day 7. They are so darling !!

Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits – John and Jill had 4 kits !!

Ohh it’s been a busy busy past few days. Of all the does I have, Jill surprised me on October 4, 2012 with 4 baby bunnies.  John is a daddy !!

Jill and John are being great parents – the baby bunnies are are growing up nicely.  Jill tends to them about 2-3 times a day to clean up and fill their bellies.

Jill didn’t pull her fur for the nest until the next day but when she did – boy did she pull fur and line everything in the hutch. John even stood there while she pulled fur from him to line the next box !! I noticed she used her fur to line the hutch and she used Johns fur to line the next box.

John goes in the next box to wash the babies after Jill just finished washing and feeding. I think it’s amazing watching how two parent rabbits tend to their kits. I would have never thought John and Jill would be like this after reading websites that say you must separate the buck from the doe – because the buck will kill the babies. I find that not true at all – but of course, John and Jill are a bonded pair since young them selves.

I would like to pick one of these babies to show in February at the Rabbit Expo.  This is so exciting !!

John is a (Black Otter = at_B_C_D_E_) Standard Rex and Jill is a Cinnamon (A_bbC_D_E_ or Black Tort = aaB_C_D_ee).

And of course here are the 4 babies. I would like to do a blog post on every day as they grow, picture page how the stages are in the growth of a rabbit from newborn. I think that would be fun. I’ll start a separate post starting on day one and go from there. I have more exciting news before I start that project though. Hang on I’ll get to that in a minute. WOOT !!
